Welcome to Nomadic Urges, not your ordinary Travel Blog

welcome to nomadic urges travel blog

Welcome to Nomadic Urges; a travel blog following the adventures of a somewhat refined, definitely eccentric, bohemian couple on a mission to find and create unique world experiences in comfort and style. We strive to provide authentic & entertaining stories, suggestions, opinions (sometimes unpopular ones), and maybe even inspiration while we traverse our planet, timeless travellers in search of exquisite culinary experiences; awe-inspiring architecture; art; ancient history, amazing people and culture.

As is typical in our very unconventional lives, the timing in which we chose to embark upon our vagabond lifestyle was, at first glance, seemingly less than ideal. It happened to coincide fairly closely with the release, “cough, cough”, I mean outbreak, of the 2020 plague. It might seem to some that this would have been an insurmountable hindrance, and that to delay our plans indefinitely would have been the wise course of action. But that’s not how we roll. Instead, we merely adapted to the conditions and altered our travel plans accordingly.

2020 was actually a rather excellent year in our lives.

Look at that, a controversial opinion right out of the gate. It is the first, but it won’t be the last.

The title of this introduction claims that this isn’t your ordinary travel blog. The majority of travel blogs I’ve seen generally follow the “10 things to do in So and So”, and “The perfect week in Wherever” type format. Such titles and posts rank high in Google search engines. And good for them. Most of these blogs are quite informative and even entertaining. I enjoy reading them. But they’re not my style.

This blog focuses more on longer-term stays in less touristy surroundings, than quick “blitz” visits for the purpose of checking off as many bucket-list locations as possible. For us, it’s quality, not quantity. It’s meant to portray what everyday life is like in the places we stay, for residents and citizens mostly, and is geared more toward expats and digital nomads than for gap-year students, party travelers, and those people cashing in their yearly vacation days at resorts. We’re creating it with the over-thirty, probably-under-sixty, not-on-a-shoestring-budget audience in mind.

Sorry kids, no Bacchanalian Ibiza stories here. Spring break at Ft Lauderdale isn’t on the docket either. And if we ever make it to Vegas……..? Well, I think we all know that what happens in Vegas, ……… You get the picture.

Also, this little bloggy is definitely intended to be entertainment for anyone who enjoys travelling vicariously through the experiences of others. I hope it provides what you need.

One definite aspect of our approach to travel is: after the two-week honeymoon in a new place, we get to see the ugly as well as the beautiful. And, also unlike many, many other travel blogs, I’m not at all shy about sharing opinions of what I didn’t like, or even hated about places, as I am about sharing what I like or loved.

Brutal honesty is my milieu. It might not get us as much free stuff as ass-kissing does, but we’re not just doing this for follower counts, likes, and bribes. Some bribes are acceptable however, I encourage establishments to offer them, but there is a moral line drawn somewhere between five-star accommodations, Michelin Star dining, heavy discounts or even cash, and honesty. Somewhere.

And there you have it. My own opinion of what myself and my wife are attempting to create, as seen through my eyes. And, as we all know, everyone’s objective opinion of themselves is always completely accurate. That’s why we’re all so good at addressing our own shortcomings, yet we struggle to point out faults in others before offering solutions. Right? You be the judge.

The world is a big place and there’s a lot to see. We hope you’ll join us in flying, walking, floating, and rolling across the globe on this epic voyage.
